A commitment to upholding honesty and integrity remains central to the life of our community. Academic integrity is the commitment made by students, faculty, researchers, and all members of the academic community always to act honorably. What does this mean? Essentially, it means that all involved in the academic community must always act responsibly. It means that we commit to each other always to refrain from cheating or plagiarizing. It means that respect for moral truth cannot be separated from pursuit of intellectual truth. To uphold and promote its tradition as an academic community striving for excellence in scholarship and in character, Georgetown University has established an Honor System for its undergraduate schools and the School for Summer and Continuing Education. This system resulted from a lengthy collaboration involving students, faculty, and administrators. I urge you to read about it carefully and to commit yourself to upholding and respecting it. I wish you well in your studies and hope that your years at Georgetown will be filled with great intellectual growth and much personal happiness. Sincerely, John J. DeGioia, Ph.D. Georgetown University Honor Council, Ground Floor Gervase Hall | ||||||||||
