November 16, 2008

The Georgetown University Second Annual Conference for Academic Integrity and the Transition to College was held in Copley Formal Lounge on November 16, 2008.  Over one-hundred high school students from the greater Washington, D.C. area attended the conference.  Highlights of the event included an introduction by Professor Thomas B. Cooke, Faculty Chair of the Georgetown University Honor Council, a speech by E.J. Dionne, Ph.D., a syndicated Washington Post columnist and professor at Georgetown's Public Policy Institute, and an academic integrity panel, including Professor Cooke, Mr. Dionne, and other members of Georgetown's faculty and Honor Council.  Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from student speakers currently engaged in the Sanction Reduction process, as well as from the Honor Council members who attended the Center for Academic Integrity's International Conference.

October 18-19, 2008

Honor Council co-chairs Catherine Homsey (COL '08), William Allen (SFS '09), and Daniel Kupratis (MSB '08), along with website committee chair Stephanie Bean (COL '09) and graduate assistant to the Honor Council Perry Guevara attended the Center for Academic Integrity's International Conference in Newport News, Virginia.  While at the conference, Catherine, William, Daniel and Stephanie made a presentation entitled, "Inspiration and Perspiration: Positive and Successful Tactics to Reach out to Students and Faculty about the Importance of Academic Integrity."  The presentation was well-received and followed by many questions from audience members.  Overall, the conference provided an excellent opportunity for the Georgetown Honor Council members to speak with students from other universities regarding their academic integrity systems.
