Document Delivery Information

We suggest that you explore these avenues for obtaining documents:

  1. Links in the result set of documents from the ETHX and Genetics and Ethics databases go to the websites of publishers where the full text of the document is online either free or for a one-time access charge.
  2. Institutional subscriptions to electronic versions of print subscriptions are growing steadily. Check with your local reference librarian about access to electronic journals through your university or public library.
  3. The U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides links from some citations to the full-text of documents. For information about literature resources available online through PubMed, see Free Biomedical Literature Resources at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/docline/freehealthlit.html.
  4. The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM), sponsored by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, provides document delivery services to researchers and to the general public in the United States (1-800-338-7657; http://nnlm.gov/).
  5. International users can go to Biomedical Literature Resources for Libraries Outside the U.S.A for information about obtaining documents.

For information on the cost and availability, subject to copyright restrictions, of citations to bioethics documents that cannot be found by the above means contact the Document Delivery Service at the:

The standard document delivery fee for the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature (NRCBL) is $12 per article plus $0.20 for each additional page if the article contains more than 10 pages. Copyright fees, which can be substantial since many journals now charge an average fee of $18 per article, are in addition to this cost. Researchers should consider the NRCBL to be the document delivery service of "last resort."
